Diplomate American Board of Veterinary Practitioners
LUBOW-Carey-Zumpano_MG_6285

Dr. Zumpano received his veterinary degree from the University California at Davis in 1996 and completed an internship in surgery and emergency medicine at California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. After completing his training, he worked in southern California, in general practice and emergency medicine.

In 2000, Dr. Zumpano began practicing in Baltimore and in 2002 was voted Baltimore’s “Best Vet.” In 2003 he completed advanced certification in general practice and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice. He worked at Animal Medical Center in Mount Washington for 4 years, before he and his family returned to California. Once back in California, he worked in emergency and critical care medicine at the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin. In 2007, Dr. Zumpano’s wife took a faculty position at Johns Hopkins and they happily returned to Baltimore to settle down “for good.” Their family includes their two children, a dog of unknown breed heritage named Winnie (genetic breed testing helped to answer some of her heritage), and a 3-legged cat named Grover.

Dr. Zumpano is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Canine and Feline Medicine. To attain advanced certification and Diplomate status a candidate must demonstrate extensive experience in multidisciplinary practice, submit case reports for approval, and pass a rigorous two day examination process. In short, it is a demonstration of a doctor’s commitment to being the best they can be. Winnie

Client Services/Puppy Socialization
157

Winnie was adopted from the animal shelter in south central Los Angeles as a young puppy in 1999. Since then she has traveled with Dr. Zumpano back and fourth across the country. She had always prompted the question: I wonder what breed she is? And so in 2008 her blood was submitted for genetic breed analysis. Much to everyone’s surprise, she was predominantly Doberman with Chow Chow and Cocker Spaniel.

Winnie comes to work daily with Dr Zumpano. She spends her day welcoming clients and pets alike, waiting for treats to be left on the floor, and helping to give puppies a positive social interaction with a bigger adult dog.
