Carey Zumpano

Meet the friendly staff at Pikesville Animal Hospital!

Carey Zumpano
Diplomate American Board of Veterinary Practitioners

Dr. Zumpano received his veterinary degree from the University California at Davis in 1996 and completed an internship in surgery and emergency medicine at California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles. During his internship he pursued additional training in endoscopy. After completing his training, he worked in general practice and emergency medicine in Southern California.

In 2000, Dr. Zumpano began practicing in Baltimore while his wife pursued her PhD. In addition to starting a family in Baltimore, he pursued advanced training in ultrasound and in 2003 completed advanced certification in general practice, becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Although his heart was in working in general practice, in 2005 he and his family returned to California where he worked in emergency and critical care medicine at the Pet Emergency and Specialty Center of Marin. In 2007, Dr. Zumpano’s wife took a faculty position at Johns Hopkins and they happily returned to Baltimore to settle down “for good.”

In 2008, he started Pikesville Animal Hospital with the goal of providing the best care to pets and their owners as well as the best work environment for all of his staff members. In 2013 he repeated his ABVP certification and in 2015 he added laparoscopy as the standard of care for all pets being spayed. After pursuing advanced training in laparoscopy, he has integrated it into many procedures to improve the patient outcome and minimize their discomfort.
Dr. Zumpano and his wife have two children and a Dachshund Mix (according to genetic breed testing), named Rosie.

Dr. Zumpano is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Canine and Feline Practice. To attain advanced certification and Diplomate status a candidate must demonstrate extensive experience in multidisciplinary practice, submit case reports for approval, and pass a rigorous two day examination process. In short, it is a demonstration of a doctor’s commitment to being the best they can be.
