Pikesville Animal Hospital is a full service animal hospital that offers a wide range of pet healthcare services, including the following:
Anesthesia: We have the safest available anesthetics, anesthetic protocols, and monitoring equipment, which provide that extra margin of safety in our patients. To insure safety and improve recovery from anesthesia, all anesthetized animals have pre operative blood work checked and IV catheters placed for fluids during the procedure. Patients have their vital parameters monitored constantly with monitors (EKG, pulse oxymetry, capnography, temperature, blood pressure) as well as veterinary nurses assessing similar clinical parameters until the pet is awake and safe.
Surgery: Our hospital includes dedicated surgical facilities and equipment for the performance of a wide range of surgical procedures. We pride ourselves on our detail and safety oriented approach to anesthesia and intra-operative surgical support.
Laparoscopy: We have laparoscopic capabilities to provide pets with minimally invasive surgery where appropriate. Laparoscopy can be utilized for common procedures including spays, cryptorchid testicle retrieval, gastropexy, liver biopsy, bladder stone removal, and full thickness intestinal biopsies. For more information on the Laparoscopic Spay Procedure (LapSpay) click here.
Ultrasound: Our hospital is equipped with a state of the art ultrasound. Our doctors have routinely utilized ultrasound in general and emergency practice for more than 8 years and have completed multiple continuing education courses in ultrasound alone.
Endoscopy: Not all problems can be solved with medicine alone. Sometimes foreign bodies or other conditions of the intestines require that we gain access to the gut. Traditionally this was done with an exploratory abdominal surgery. In many cases we can address these problems non-invasively with the use of an endoscope.
Laboratory: Our complete in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, and parasite testing. We have equipped our in house laboratory with all of the resources necessary to assess a patient’s health within an hour if needed. In addition to our in-house laboratory, we have a full service reference laboratory that picks up specimens daily. Virtually any test possible can be performed on a daily basis.
Dentistry: We believe dental care is of valuable benefit to the comfort and well being of our patients. As such, we provide complete dental services including teeth cleaning with an ultrasonic scaler, polishing, tooth extractions, and minor oral surgery. We are completely equipped with high-speed dental hand pieces and digital dental x-rays to make the best decisions and provide the best care for your pet’s oral health.
Radiology: We have a completely integrated digital x-ray system that produces high quality diagnostic radiographs in much shorter time. This means less stress for your pet and better answers for you and the doctors.
Cancer Chemotherapy: We have experience in treating many cancers with surgery and/or chemotherapy including lymphosarcoma and mast cell tumors. We strongly believe in quality of life when discussing treatment options with pet owners.
Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible, it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.
We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 6 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet's life. Emergencies can be things such as snail bait poisoning, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible, it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency.
We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments as best they can. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen. During our normal business hours, please call (410) 580 - 9119, if you have an emergency!
